It is a privilege and delight to join in thanksgiving to God
th
as you celebrate the 50 anniversary of the William Booth
Secondary School.
The year 1983 was the start of an unforgettable experience
for my family, living in Hong Kong, and for me serving
at WBSS with a talented staff, marked by warmth, that
essential quality for teachers. Forty years on we still receive
news of WBSS, noting with joy, outstanding academic,
sporting, social and artistic successes, and the continuing
commitment of the school to be a place of possibilities for
every student.
In 1987 on our return to New Zealand, I was given a
wooden cross by Ng Man Yee, who had started at WBSS
in Form 1, years later joining the staff as a gifted teacher.
Man Yee’s cross bearing the words “Peace be with you!”
has been at the entrance to our various homes ever since,
a daily reminder of the source and spirit of all that WBSS
stands for, a message so urgently needed in the world
today. Warm congratulations on the continuing vital
work of WBSS and “Peace be with you”.
